In our 7 years at South Grand Prairie High School we have taken huge steps towards our ultimate goal to win a State Championship. Our coaches and student athletes have worked extremely hard to make the South Grand Prairie Basketball program one of the best in the State of Texas. SGP has had a winning record every year that Coach Bennett has been head coach, and have won 20 plus games in 4 out of 6 seasons. Under Coach Bennett’s leadership the Warriors have 149 wins and 53 losses. The Warriors were District Champions and Regional Finalist for the 2011-2012 season. They were Region 1 Champions and State Finalist for the 2012-2013 season. In those 2 seasons the warriors had 72 wins and 7 losses. Coach Bennett was voted the District 5-5A Coach of the Year and Dallas Morning News Coach of the Year for the 2011-2012 season. Coach Bennett and his staff currently have 13 student athletes playing college basketball, and have 2 players on the 2015-2016 team that have committed to play division one basketball at major universities.

Zachary Weir Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Weir graduated from Waxahachie High School in 2000, where he was a varsity letterman as a point guard, 1st team All-District as a senior and also voted MVP by his teammates his senior year. He graduated from Oakland City University in 2005 where he played college basketball and received numerous accolades during his playing career. He has coached basketball for ten years and is beginning his third year here at SGP. He’s excited to be on staff at SGP, because of the supportive community and the opportunity to work with Coach Bennett his staff, the entire SGP staff, and all of the great student athletes. Off the court, Zach enjoys anything that keeps him active and spending time with his wife, Erin and his daughter, Quinn.
Terrance Lofton Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Lofton graduated from Grandview Senior High School in 1995, where he played varsity basketball. After high school he attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC) and was a member of the basketball team as a red shirt freshman. From there he transferred to junior college and played his way to a full scholarship at Stephen F. Austin State University. Coach Lofton has been coaching for 9 years, and is working on his 10th. He is currently the Freshman Head Coach at South Grand Prairie High School. He is married with a wonderful family and serves faithfully at his local church. Coach Lofton has aspirations to be a varsity head basketball coach and to be apart of a basketball program that helps young boys develop into young men and to win a state title.
Christopher Perez Head Freshman Coach
Coach Perez graduated from Martin High School in 2005 where he played basketball as a forward. He attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership and Development Studies in 2009. This will be his 8th year coaching basketball and the third at South Grand Prairie High School. He is very excited to be on the staff at South Grand Prairie for another season, and looks forward to working with Coach Bennett and the staff, continuing to be a part of the the community, and working towards the continual development of our student-athletes. In his free time Chris enjoys spending time with his wife, Dineen, and their daughter Murphy, watching sports, and traveling.
Kyle Meyers Assistant Freshman Coach
Coach Meyers graduated from Texas Christian University in May 2017 with a Bachelor Degree in
Kinesiology, studying Physical Education- Strength & Conditioning. During his time at TCU, he
played on the TCU Basketball Practice Team all four years, where he was able to learn from
some of the best coaches in the nation. Coach Meyers has also coached in Mansfield and Fort
Worth ISD, coaching summer basketball camps at Lake Ridge and Timberview for two summers
each in 2015 and 2016, and serving as a Volunteer Varsity Assistant Coach at South Hills High
School during the 2016-2017 season. He is very excited to be on staff here at SGP, as well as to
be able to coach this great group of young men. Kyle was on his Freshman B Team back in 2009
at Westside High School in Houston, TX, and hopes to help mold his student athletes into future
varsity and collegiate athletes, and young men of character.
